BANDIT THE NEWEST MEMBER OF THE WOLFGANG SITE BY BARKLEY FAULKNER
On June 28, 2007 after the pack had finished grieving over Tinker, a pack member
we recently lost, a new member to our pack arrived at our den. His name is
Bandit, he weighted 5 pounds when he first came into the pack, unfortunately, we
did not measure his height, and we greatly regretting not doing so. Bandit’s
parents were Toy Poodle’s, however Bandit has all ready out grown them in
height and weight, his weight is 13.4 pounds and he is 12 ½ inches high. He is
apricot in color but it is hard to tell his color because he and I play so hard
during the day that his coat is always so unkempt it is hard to tell what color
he is. Bandit
and I got off on the right paw from his very first day in the pack, although he
was a little afraid of me at first. However that was to be expected, a little 5
pound puppy coming in to a new pack, already feeling overwhelmed by all the new
sights and sounds so different from his first den. Then seeing me a standard
apricot Poodle who stands 28 ½ inches tall and weights 86 pounds would scare
any little 5 pound puppy, my head was bigger then his whole body. It
took about a day to be come acquainted, before long he was crawling all over me,
and he still is crawling all over me a lot of the time when I am laying down on
the floor which is all in play. When I am standing up and Bandit wants to play
he will jump up and grab my ears, mustache, or even my tail, when he does I just
shake him off, he falls and rolls. We
also chase each other around the whole house, and if it is nice, we include the
yard. The running will start when one of us has something the other one wants,
Say I have something and I am chewing on it, say I possess a rawhide bone and
Bandit wants it. He will run up to me and try to take it out of my mouth. I will
jump up and take off running with the rawhide bone with Bandit following right
behind me, Bandit always catches me because he is both fast and can corner
better the I can, yet I keep on running till he gives up. Nevertheless, because
I am of such a high moral fiber I will give Bandit the rawhide bone after the
chase ends. Other times it is all reversed, Bandit will have something I want
and I will try to take it, he will take off on the run and I will give chase.
Only because he is fast and can corner sharply the chase continues until he is
tired, however he will not give me the object of the chase, he will squeeze
himself and the object into some place I cannot get into. I
love watching Bandit so full of vim and vigor and so filled with curiosity about
everything, from dust balls under the bed, to leaves blowing in the wind. I love
observing Bandit, as he investigates everyone by jumping up on them and sniffing
them to find out who is coming into the pack, and whether they be friend or foe.
Watching him bark at his own refection in a mirror or window, or examination of
his amusing movements he makes with his paws. He will attack an imagined enemy
as he lays on his back in his bed. Watching him doing these things, and a
million other puppy behaviors, bring back my own puppy hood and all the fun of
learning all the things a puppy needs to learn. |
