Perky, alias Bat Girl

This part of my Memorial Pages is devoted to the two, two leggers with wings that were in my alpha’s pack when I joined it.

The first two legger with wings, that I would like to memorialize, joined my alpha’s pack in 1981.

Her job as a pack member was different than Sebastian’s, her job was to whistle, and chirp, to fill the pack's den with the sounds of life. She also had the duty to cheer up the pack, by her playful tomfooleries. Which she did with her own distinctive and elegant style of silliness.

Her name was Perky, but after she had been in the pack for a short time, she was betided with the nickname of Bat Girl. Bat Girl had the habit of hanging upside down as she played with toys, as well as hanging upside down from curtains, lamp shades, or any were else she could hang upside down from, and whistle and chirp.

She was in our pack from 1981 till 1988, when she went to bird nirvana.

Hawk

The Hawk two leggier with wings, joined our pack in 1985; his duty to the pack was the same as Batgirl’s. He shared the job of whistling, and chirping, filling the den with the sounds of life. He shared the duty of cheering up the pack.

His method of cheering up the pack was different, as the difference between Batgirl’s and his personalities. Rather than hanging upside down he played with his toys in a large birdie play ground that my alpha had built for Batgirl, she had explained the play ground to Hawk when he joined the pack. He would spend hours running around the play ground, playing with the many toys that my alpha equipped the play ground with.

Instead of flying to a lampshade or the drapes to whistle and chirp while hanging upside down, Hawk, with his inquisitiveness, would bravely fly all over the pack's den.  He would find the most improbable places to chirp and whistle.  Sometimes my alpha would have to trace Hawk's whistling and chirping to find him, he could hear Hawk, but could not see him.

My alpha would find Hawk whistling and chirping from the middle of a houseplant, or sitting on books on a bookshelf, or maybe in the middle of a pile of assorted stuff my alpha had piled upon his desk.

When Perky went to birdie nirvana in 1988, Hawk kept on fulfilling his duty to the pack till 1992 when Hawk went to birdie nirvana.
